Cargo bloat doesn't include .rodata, but -size does.

I’d like to see the results with solution zero: recompile libcore with opt-level=s. Cargo’s new build-std feature might help?

Tried this in a branch (called xbuild in the repo), it cut a few 100 bytes off, but not a lot.

I believe that solution 2 is the most likely to be able to land in nightly in the short term, and would be IMO a necessary prerequisite for 3.

An easy win in solution 2 is to (optionally) remove the use of Unicode tables in <char as Debug>::fmt, specifically calls to is_grapheme_extended and is_printable.
