Experience suggests that individual employees funding their own equipment becomes the norm. Just like apprentices having to buy their own tool kits. Is this what we want? It also creates security and software licencing issues

I usually buy my own keyboard and mouse for the office. I'm so used to a high precision mouse, that it is jarring not to use one. I always get given keyboards with bits broken off, so bringing my own means it's no longer a disappointment :)

Although they are expected by law , at least in the UK, to provide safe equipment for employees. You can sue easily if you get injured because of a companies lack of ergonomic equipment.

I think there's a gap between 'won't injure you in a legally actionable way' and 'comfortable, or even enjoyable'.
