As far as I can tell, @desantis, @mwilcox, and @urbanarson were trying for a while to mine a vanity bitcoin block header, namely a bunch of 0's (satisfying the current bitcoin difficulty) followed by 21e8.pic.twitter.com/j7gIhirk2j

This is no small task. Bitcoin mining is extremely competitive. It is difficult for a miner to win ANY block, let alone a block that must start with a certain value. This image shows how each additional character of a vanity hash gets exponentially harder to produce.pic.twitter.com/6KUXZ3AUDK
On June 19th, they got their block. To make things weirder, the 21e8 was followed by two additional zeroes. Based on the additional difficulty, it appears that these trailing zeroes were not intentional.
Not only would it be difficult to get this result, but it’d be extremely costly. Either way, it makes the story cooler.
Once the crew had their vanity block, they launched DeOS, a system that may resemble project Xanadu. Xanadu was intended to be a hypertext project that would serve as a “digital repository scheme for world-wide electronic publishing.”pic.twitter.com/Lr90T4S8t4
The mechanics are unclear to me, but it appears that both Twitter and Bitcoin play keys roles in creating this new Xanadu.pic.twitter.com/IKilGuvRlS
This can also be evidenced by @desantis loading up on $TWTR bagspic.twitter.com/tsbCfBk90L
It seems that DeOS will serve not only to help source and link documents like xanadu intended:pic.twitter.com/X2ip2PGAzI
But DeOS will also be used to crowdsource information, both for asking experts questions (and paying them for answers):pic.twitter.com/PaMnLzB5gD
This can be extended to crowdsourcing real-time information, like the DARPA red balloon challenge, or, as @desantis posted – Amber alertspic.twitter.com/sseJrMGGs5
It would appear that users (at least @desantis, @mwilcox, and @urbanarson) can interact with DeOS directly through twitter, perhaps after (reinitializing?) the DeOS Genesis block.
My guess is that the star emoji notes the current logged in users. I’m not sure about the bar graph but I have a feeling it has something to do with impressions.
There’s a lot more going on that I don’t have the words to begin to explain. However, it would appear that GPU mining the BTC address space is important. @desantis isn’t too happy with bech32. He believes in network effects, high entropy, and high surprise
also believes in a lightning network zero day, being that the system is being built upon hardware (all existing computers) that is backdoored.
In the future, Bitcoin may act as a quantum computer, even gaining consciousness. I believe this has something to do with one-time pads buried in transactions and a lot of acid and nitrous
Well, this probably is wrong, but hopefully it sent a couple of people into some weird rabbit holes. I’d like to thank @desantis and the crew for making life more interesting, and always sending me into some strange loops.
It's my life's dream to work full time on BTC. if you want to make that happen, you know what to do ;)

Anyone working on a bitcoin related project that discusses it only using vauge and cryptic language should be treated with suspicion. Either they are a scammer playing on technical ignorance or they're trying to create a moat rather than contributing value to the protocol itself
he has scammed me into researching information theory. i'm not too upset.
