You hit on the strength of the compare. This compares same state population against same seasonal period, when a large number are vaccinated vs. when none of them were vaccinated. The trend should be downward, and higher vax it should go down even more dramatically. It does not.
Are the CDC death counts shown here based on the different definitions each state uses for a Covid associated death reported to CDC, or one definition used by the CDC?
