Well, that comes down to a value judgement. I’m interested in e.g. building a general AI and colonizing the galaxy, so I’ll happily settle for soulless 200 IQ drones that have bad sex.

You're not even wrong in a sense, and Land isn't an easy author. But he is as serious of a philosopher as any living English-speaker.

Pure illustration here... I've read enough Freud to know that Thanatos was his mistake (it doesn't exist). So I'm reading Land and he mentions Thanatos passingly... I am grasping my hair... Why... it's a vague reference to an inaccurate concept... Dammit.

Machinic desire doesn't erase traditions... it creates new ones, equally stupid ones... because it's not machinic desire at the end... there is a human at the end... not a very attractive specimen, but a human one

If substitution of protein crystals (or RNA crystals?) with DNA was deterritorialization, it means nothing to us... It's absurd to imagine a crystalline form "caring" about its DNA-based descendants... they are not like it by definition....
-
Machinistic desire is a meaningless term... it's absurd to even contemplate much less to greet or expect its arrival... The looking glass I talked about will either contain it or transform it into something completely unrecognizable.
-
Capital ends where desire ends, so there is no capitalism behind the looking glass... there is something else... we cannot know what that something else is... therefore it's absurd for us to talk about it... "What we cannot speak about we must pass over in silence" etc
-
It's not "capital" that's "de-territorializing" family systems in our world... it's a specific ruling structure... that ruling structure reproduces itself in ways that are almost orthogonal to capitalism...

Basically my take on this is that nothing here makes sense... It's full of bad assumptions and worse analysis... Maybe a closer study of evolutionary biology can set Nick Land straight https://twitter.com/biodysphoria/status/1012207679333371904 …
