If you like engineering or puzzles, you may be curious about how they put together that Wuhan prefab hospital in one week. (The first photo has most of the components in piles on the job site.)

“The government’s initial handling of the epidemic allowed the virus to gain a tenacious hold. At critical moments, officials chose to put secrecy and order ahead of openly confronting the growing crisis.”

Tracking Wuhan air travel (in ), "Data were obtained from the Official Airline Group" (£) Similar to table 1 from this blog (final destinations and connections) but Jan/Feb listings don't quite match Q1 ones

I shouldn't have read this Lancet article just before bed. Their model predicts that a week ago there were actually 76K infected people just in Wuhan, not the 2.7K reported (and the doubling time was less than 1 week, so...)

This study in the Lancet says that they expect to peak in April in Wuhan (imagine two months more of this?) and that the quarantine won't work.

    1. Great modelling study in looking at potential burden of the novel in Wuhan and throughout China. Estimates that "75 815 individuals...have been infected in Wuhan as of Jan 25, 2020"

New case reported in Germany- family member of one of the secondary cases reported in yesterday's NEJM ▶️ strongly suggests (limited) local transmission

Interesting tidbit. Part of the RBD from the spike protein of matches more closely to a then bat (rest of virus from bats. Possible recombinant?

So that answers the question re the possibility of recombination somewhere along the line as the genome seems to suggest

This is the type of plot we warn students about. Sure, this is the data, but the data is highly problematic. There is a large missing data bias here, and given the fatality rates we are seeing (relatively low) the bias might be stronger than anticipated.

This coverage strikes me as miscommunicating/potentially misinforming… Headline pushed to top of Twitter Explore says deaths have "jumped" when they've risen steadily: fatality rate consistent 2.1% of cases in China, while 180 cases outside 🇨🇳 saw only 1 death (0.55% mortality)

Best thread I’ve read on preprints in a long time - everyone interested in recent discussions about screening/removal, etc . should read it ht

I don’t understand the attack on preprints (because of the “virus is engineered” MS). *Owing* to the preprint the problems were identified & it didn’t reach the public. Someone forgot that “vaccines cause autism” was published in the Lancet? (Retracted after many years of damage)
