    I can’t read the whole article, but very much hope that goes on to conclude that, like the majority of fans, he has seen the light and come out for independence. If he does, I wish him a sincere arabest!

    So it looks like the 4-day 1st war of Brexit is officially over: Brexiters got all excited on Brexit day as Guernsey banned French fishermen. Everything was fine till Guernsey fisherman went to process their fish in France. France refused, the fish rotted & now the war is over.

    Are you aware of the book Edinburgh to the Antarctic - W Burn Murdoch. Great descriptions of the expedition and the departure from Dundee.

    The ship in the background is the Scotia, in whose engine room my great-great-grandfather Johnston Smith worked a few years after this Antarctic expedition when the ship then became a whaler out of Dundee. 1/7

    The expedition was an expression of Scottish pride, identity and proto nationalism at the time of the Celtic Revival.

    I wasn’t, but it looks worth getting. Somewhat spookily, the other pic in the aforementioned pocket was this one. If you peer, you can just read DIANA. That was one of the three ships on the 1892 expedition in that book, and presumably also on my ancestor’s employment record!

    Why be so deliberately offensive & puerile? The lack of class, sensitivity & manners shown by this DWP Minister is astounding. The polite question was about foodbanks, poverty, hunger...and he uses it as an attempt to demean the Scots? What mean spirited, underbred behaviour.

    Exactly. Press exclusion is not new in Scotland. We have been through this before. Freedom of reporting was suppressed by the Tories here on that day. It’s nothing new to them. Surely this was noticed by other journalists in the UK? No?
