  1. Definitely not. It is cheap looking 5.11 like knockoff ball caps. Now if they had Ibn Khattab’s hat… then I’m in!

When the prime policy objective for Afghanistan for 3 successive presidents is to leave, the bureaucracy gets the message & crafts their messages to support leaving. This is how you get silly narratives like Al Qaeda is "gone," "decimated," "degraded," defeated" & "diminished."

In 2011, I wrote an article titled "Al Qaeda never left Kunar, and other problems with US intel". The same problems exist. This is is one of the many, many reasons why the U.S. lost Afghanistan.

Look no further than Sirajuddin Haqqani, the new Interior Minister, which is arguably the most powerful position in the Taliban government. His ties to A Qaeda run deep. The UN called him an "Al Qaeda leader." He isn't the only one, just the easiest one to spot.

Look at the list of the "new" Taliban leadership. It is the old crew. Many have deep, longstanding ties to Al Qaeda. This relationship, which was re-forged in 20 years of war against the U.S., is stronger than ever.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that Al Qaeda "may attempt to regenerate" in Afghanistan. For 11 years, senior US officials have made a version this absurd claim. Al Qaeda never left, and remains embedded with the Taliban.

Two successive administrations - Trump & Biden - led by one of the premier Taliban apologists, Zalmay Khalilzad , were so committed to leaving Afghanistan and groveling to the Taliban, that they willingly abandoned Mark Frerichs.

The U.S. failed to cull the Taliban's leadership cadre, and with the help of the Pakistani state, the Taliban's core leaders organized and executed their patient insurgency to outlast the U.S. and NATO. With Pakistan as a safe haven, the Taliban thrived.

The failure of the U.S. military/intelligence/government in combatting the Taliban is on display with the Taliban's "new" old leadership team. By early 2002, the Taliban may have been driven off the battlefield, but never really defeated. Its leaders fled to Pakistan & regrouped.

    - & I profile 22 members of the Taliban's new government. All are Taliban veterans, many from the Taliban's regime from 1996-2001; 4 are former Guantanamo detainees; most are sanctioned by the UN & US. The Taliban's veteran leadership team was ready to take over.
