The better time would have been 25 years ago. Like planting a tree, y'know.

this is true. or even 30. but i hate saying 'i told you so.'
-
not so much, it turns out...

The climate has been changing for millions of years. But all of a sudden we have 12 years to live? Al gore has been saying that for thirty years now
-
The climate has been changing since the formation of Earth's atmosphere about 5B years ago. But humans evolved under a narrow, predictable set of conditions in the past 100K years, modern agriculture developed in the past 12K years under even more defined conditions. And now...pic.twitter.com/ko0rezUs8y

I wonder what we could’ve done to stop the continental divide? How about the giant meteor that took out the dinosaurs? Or all the ice ages? All that happened before human... but NOW all of a sudden it’s humans fault. ORRRR maybe the earth is just doing whatever the fuck it wants
-
If you are arguing that billions of people extracting, then burning huge amounts of stored carbon from the Earth and releasing heat-trapping gasses into the atmosphere, causes no measurable disruption of the climate, you'd be flatly wrong by every climatological consensus.
-
Still doesn’t answer what caused the extinction of dinos, ice ages, continental divide. If we only have 12 years to live then it doesn’t really matter then does it.

Since 99% of the energy that drives the climate is from natural forces, I’ll let you and the rest of the hapless humans do all the worrying. It is not possible to determine what, if any impact we have on the planetary climate.
-
You sound like you must be an expert. Could you please tell everybody what carbon13 is, and its relationship to carbon12 in the atmosphere? Thanks. I can’t wait to learn. So glad we have smart people like you looking out for us
#climatebrawl -
13 is heavier than 12 & 12 is most common. Not an expert and don’t need to be. We cannot, and more importantly will not stop the climate from changing. Political hysteria notwithstanding, this is not a crisis.
-
02 ...is what leads to extinctions. We are all part of an ecosystem, we’re interdependent. Even if you think humans are smart, and can survive it, we depend on the rest of nature for our own survival. We need water, and food, which requires rain cycles, and usable soil...

Why are we not applying the same rules to climate deniers as we do to Holocaust deniers ? Is the evidence less clear? Are less people going to be affected and suffering? Is the human right issue not of principle concern here? (for children and future?).
#stopclimatedeniers -
What are these rules? Did we repeal the first amendment? Yes, the evidence is less clear until you can provide proof that humans, not natural factors known and unknown, are changing the climate.
-
yes, the evidence is clear humans are accelerating it. But why does that even matter? Why can we adjust to help stop climate change even when we are not causing it? “Sir! The ship is sinking!” “It’s ok, we didn’t cause it, it was the iceberg, carry on at full speed!
-
Catastrophic climate change ( less than 12 years) means what it says. . Catastrophic! It means we can’t adjust with Devastating impacts on our society. Taking action on cc now means we will become more resilient also.

We are never going to effect the natural climate change we are experiencing. Man-made or Natural (but I have found sea shells in the Egyptian desert from thousands of years ago) climate change will happen. What can we do when it does happen? You can’t change 200 yrs in 12 yrs.
-
"I found sea shells so man made climate change isn't real" Thanks for the contribution Eddie
-
There have been findings of alligator bones in the Arctic. So Artic was once warm. Glaciers retreated hundreds of years ago from North America. The deserts of Egypt were once under water. Climate change is natural. There is NO scientific evidence to support either way.
-
False dichotomy. The fact that climate changes naturally does not preclude man from influencing the speed or severity of change. Humanity puts out more SO2, CO2, CH4, etc yearly than all nature combined over 20 years. It changes without us. With us, it changes faster and harder.
-
Do accelerate really matter? Is IS happening with or without us. And how do we really know? There may be hypotheses, but empirical evidence either way. (This is the first recorded event) let’s plan for the future. Any plan to correct , has no guaranteed effect.
-
Eddie, I want you to think about this: "What if I'm wrong?" If you're wrong, the future is going to be very unkind to those who dragged us into annihilation.
-
Dean, I want you and others to think about if you are wrong. What if we can’t control the future? How are we going to adapt?
-
Depends on how we do it, we can all dig in and try to undo the damage we've done. Balance our carbon emissions, rebuild forests and invest in renewable energy. None of these are insane ideas.
