For the 3rd time in the history of humanity, civilization is undergoing phase change. The 1st was the Agricultural Revolution. The 2nd, the Industrial Revolution. We are now in the midst of an . AVAILABLE NOW:

Many sectors of the global economy have transitioned into a post-industrial phase. The World Economic Forum calls this phase the Fourth Industrial Revolution, but that is a misnomer. It should instead be called the First Digital Revolution.

In order to deal effectively with Covid, we need international cooperation. To curb a pandemic, countries must be transparent and inform others about their findings. They must then take action to control the spread of the pandemic to other nations.

A shift of historic proportions is taking place. A "phase change", as in water to ice. This is driven by the rise of intelligent, autonomous machines. The book, investigates that change and the indicators of what it brings.

For the first 2 decades of widescale deployment of enterprise software, we did get what appeared to be transformative returns simply by installing new software. Here’s the thing. The returns came from automation, not transformation.

In venture, you want to encourage capital-efficient business models early on, and only apply larger amounts of capital once the companies are scaling rapidly. That’s when they can then effectively use these funds.

As our testing capacity increases, we're discovering cases that would have gone undetected previously. So, part of the reason we are seeing rapid increases in disease count is that we are just a lot better at finding infected people.

The Paradox 1. You can't digitally transform an enterprise without software. 2. Software can't digitally transform an enterprise. Everybody gets the 1st, but many miss the 2nd. Why?

As explained in my book, when threats and institutions undergo , they obey different rules, and we must use different tools to deal with them. Pipes can't be used to move ice and an army can't provide adequate defense against a pandemic.

Not all business portfolio additions require a transformation. In these situations, there is still much cheese to move, but not so much that it requires mobilizing the entire enterprise to get it done. Instead there is a transition zone.

Personal data is essentially quantified human behavior. With surplus's of this quantified data, we'll need to establish laws/regulations to control the conduct of organizations & institutions.

When we win, we normally don’t learn much. When we lose we have the opportunity to learn and it comes down to 4 questions. 1-What did you think would happen? 2-What happened? 3-What did you learn? 4-How will you remediate the situation?

Science is under attack with funding cuts, but we're attacking the wrong enemy, increasing our risks, and undermining our world leadership. Looking closely at the pandemic will help to explain why.

Developing markets are like basketball players giving fakes. Going too early puts you out of position. Going too late forsakes 1st mover advantage, but it has 2 consolation prizes: You're still in the game, and you're in position if the 1st mover stumbles.

Like a fad that no one would wish on their worst enemy, America has become swept up in a phenomenon of “coviding”. Individuals, businesses, & governments are coviding. If you're not coviding, you are not with it.

Whether you are a public company worrying about making the quarter, or an early-stage VC fund looking into the future, every investment has a sell-by date, when it must deliver liquidity. The further out that date, the more dramatic the return must be.

Getting America back to work without restarting reproduction rates will depend on short term fixes. We can then gradually lift restrictions, such as shelter in place. Without the right short-term fixes, the outbreak will get out of control again.

As with real-life surfing, when it comes to catching the next wave, timing is everything. Yes, there are under way, so yes, futurists really can see the future. But, did any of them think to look at the calendar when they were there?
