I've been wondering for ages if it really does work OK to use solder paste and stencil to add "solder balls" to a BGA chip. I'd heard it can be done, but wasn't 100% sure. Maybe I didn't need to buy a reballing kit after all. lol

It's likely the goal here was to get it to turn on long enough to get data off the thing, doubt it's a good long term fix. Apple's encryption works such that just desoldering the flash and throwing it into a reader won't work, gotta go the whole hog.
