In our new paper we demonstrate that residue-based bioethanol can replace between 7 and 31% of oil products used in the global transport sector. We also calculated bioethanol's land, water and carbon footprints:
Disposing of plastic that could be recycled or reused incurs a high cost. In Europe it's as much as €105 billion a year.
To address this issue, the EU is working to curb plastic waste and create a circular economy.
