Day 0: NeurIPS Expo Insightful talk by the Facebook PyTorch team on Lightning, a super useful wrapper to PyTorch that reduces standard boilerplate code used when training models (i.e. init, logging, precision changes, checkpoints, etc)https://github.com/williamFalcon/pytorch-lightning/blob/master/README.md …

Day 1: Opening remarks: Amazing (and deeply courageous + moving at the end!) talk by Celeste Kidd on How To Know. Highly encourage going through the slides, and watching the recorded version.https://slideslive.com/38921495/how-to-know …

Day 2: Poster sessions were great! It's amazing to see these many attendees (13K+) all excited about ML (sessions were at overcapacity and people were stopped outside!) I liked how the posters were segregated by topic/row which helped with navigating around the giant room.pic.twitter.com/pNFh0kGOyI

Day 3: 1/ Again poster sessions were the highlight! Listing a couple of the papers that stood out, and I'm planning to dig into: Is Deeper Better When Only Shallow is Good? https://papers.nips.cc/paper/8871-is-deeper-better-only-when-shallow-is-good.pdf … Teaching Multiple Concepts to a Forgetful Learner http://papers.nips.cc/paper/8659-teaching-multiple-concepts-to-a-forgetful-learner.pdf …

Day 4: Another great poster session, but the highlight was the evening debate on whether AI research is stuck in a local optimum. Convincing points raised by both sides (which lead to my views oscillating). Debate followed Chatham House Rule: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chatham_House_Rule …

Day 5: First day of workshop sessions! Many great workshops occuring in parallel. My favorites were the ML Retrospectives Workshop, an experiment which IMO worked out quite well (https://ml-retrospectives.github.io ), and the talk by Kentaro Toyama at the ML4D workshop. I'll post notes soon.

Day 6: Final day of
#NeurIPS2019! Another day of diverse workshops, from AI for Social Good to Machine Learning + Creativity. Especially enjoyed all the poster sessions + panel discussions (esp the one on The Role of Communication at the Science meets Engineering of DL).Prikaži ovu nit -
Thank you
@NeurIPSConf for the seamless execution of such a large event (14K+ attendees, at least 30+ countries, spread over 7 days). The truly global nature of AI/ML research leaves me in awe. Till next time :)pic.twitter.com/mPM8UbCX4a – mjesto: Vancouver Convention Centre West
