I'm excited about this. Infrastructure and software, deployed the same way, with the same pipeline and tools. I'm curious to learn if this is using Cluster API for the GKE Kind, or if it's connected to that project.
GKE launched in 2014, just a few months after Kubernetes, long before Cluster API existed. This is using the existing GKE API under the hood.

Curious what made the service catalogue model not good ? That one didn’t require creating a crd per resource ?

Different goals. Many people wanted a unique CRD type for each underlying resource type. One reason: type-specific RBAC. Another reason is similar to Terraform: expose all the knobs of the underlying provider rather than provide a simpler abstraction.
