The COVID denialists can't deny that case levels are rising, so they're focusing exclusively on the falling death toll--as if that's an immutable fact of the pandemic that we can now count on.

The falling death rate is probably some combination of younger people getting infected (for now), health care systems not being overwhelmed (yet), and deaths being a trailing indicator. These are not factors we can sit back and assume will hold forever.

Younger people can spread the virus to their elders, which they're pretty much guaranteed to do, given that reopening is forcing everyone back to work prematurely, tons of people remain in prison, and nursing homes remain a racket.

Health care system capacity is not infinite. If we don't stop the exponential growth in cases, systems will be overwhelmed and people will start dying who could have survived with adequate EMS and hospital care.

deaths tend to be a lagging indicator with disease. it's great to see fewer people dying, but a) it's unlikely that trend will continue and b) it doesn't bring the other 127k dead people back to life

Thank god! Now with COVID-19 I can maybe look forward to mere weeks and months of suffering and possible lifelong organ damage and serious bodily deterioration, instead of simply death, so I might as well get COVID-19 voluntarily! Mask-free bars, here I come!

This argument also ignores the significant number of people experiencing chronic COVID symptoms or seeing long term organ or CNS damage. Well & dead aren't the only COVID outcomes.

It’s like they expect us to trust the numbers - what is the total death toll for each state compared to that figure as an5 year average? What accounts for that rise?

How can there still be people who haven't comprehended (a) what happens when ICUs reach their patient limit or (b) that surviving Covid-19 doesn't necessarily mean going back to the state of health that survivors were in before they got the virus?
