Fun fact: some people have an internal narrative and some don't As in, some people's thoughts are like sentences they "hear", and some people just have abstract non-verbal thoughts, and have to consciously verbalize them And most people aren't aware of the other type of person

This reminds me a bit of a disagreement I used to have with my ex. He claimed that he could look at text and not read it ... like just see the letters as shapes. I was adamant that you can't look at words in a language you know and *not* read them.

I genuinely have full conversations with myself in my head. I’d get so bored if I didn’t have an internal monologue.
-
I have conversations w/myself. Sometimes, they're pretty amusing. They're also how I know when I'm being lazy or stupid. Half of those convos is the part of me testing out excuses or expressing self-doubt. The other half is the rest of me telling myself to suck it up & try.

I don’t know if this makes sense but you just jump through states of "knowing stuff". It’s like you focus on that thing that you know then that other thing and that’s a "non-verbal thought sentence".
-
That does make sense, actually. I think I might do something similar, but there are always words attached, even if they're a kind of "shorthand" for a more complete thought.

You really think in actual sentences? With words and stuff? I thought that was just a figure of speech. Crazy.
-
I've been spending a lot of time thinking about how I think this week.
And yeah, it really is in words, at least, if not always sentences. - Još 1 odgovor

So when you realise that you're hungry and want to make yourself something to eat, do you tell yourself "I should make something to eat"? That sounds so fascinating to me. I think mostly in images. Non-abstract ones for simple things like eating, and abstract for complex thoughts
-
Actually, yeah. I don't always think in complete--or grammatical--sentences, but it's always at least a phrase, like "I'm hungry ... toast, maybe." Or if I'm at the grocery store for milk and pass the shampoo aisle I will think the actual words, "oh, I need shampoo."
