Anyone who can’t engage with idea that social isolation plays a role in radicalization needs to take a step back and reevaluate their approach. Of course this assumes they want to engage in something other than bad faith dunking.

I’m not Jewish or black but this works when dealing with people who may hate you because of other religious or political beliefs.

I think this is an important element in ridding our communities of the political opportunism and tribalism that is partitioning then isolating our varied people.

I read it back when it was fresh, and I appreciate the refresh. I’ve seen similar interactions between anti-LEO believers and police, but not much involving the leaders of the groups mostly involved in ‘defund’ movements. Would be interesting to see if that would be successful.

It’s worth noting that there’s actual research on this topic. It demonstrates that the approach this piece advocates is the most effective way to combat bigotry. Screaming, waving signs, and punching Nazis apparently doesn’t convince folks to stop being Nazis. Go figure.

A numbers of years ago one of the older synagogues here had me as security because they had a repentant ex-neo Nazi speak to people about his experience. It was a good thing to do.
