People who've never lived in a household with a lot of kids probably don't know that the older kids help take care of the younger kids and the family as a whole. A lot gets done when responsibilities are divided among those who can tackle them.

Older kids helping take care of younger kids is great for everyone: older kids learn responsibility, younger kids get attention, parents aren't sole providers of all attention, and family bonds are strong.
