If online learning is so awesome, people would not be doing this.

Online learning was an ad hoc solution for a horrible problem. To know if it really can work, you’d need quite a while (say 2-4 years) to make a curriculum that learns best practices and takes advantage of remote learning strengths.

Since the start of summer, wife has been providing 1:1 tutoring to around a dozen kids just learning to read. She’s been asked multiple times in the past few days about teaching small homeschool groups.

I live in the Bay Area and converse a lot with folks in LA. My daughter is too young for this but I’ve heard rumblings of it. Wife’s sister is also considering it in Indiana.

My guess: you’ll see some success in pods where the parents can co-exist and wars where they don’t. And the biggest x-factor is what happens if society gets a handle on covid by end of fall (and, subsequently, what if it hangs out for a while longer)?

Do the "possible actual solutions require government intervention" like this says? Because it seems like the *last* thing this needs is the government adding layers of bureaucracy.

Once LA and SD school districts closed for the beginning of fall and the LA teachers union made a bunch of unrelated demands within hours I had 10 different families reach out about this...totally bonkers.
