Remember when we were told we had to flatten the curve and we’d lockdown for a few weeks to ramp up PPE and free up ventilators or else we’d have to start death panels? When did that turn into indefinite lockdowns and economic destruction because “if it saves one life?”

I think the issue is that 2 months ago, the thought was that we would be able to ramp up our testing to a capacity where it would be possible to do to targeted quarantining and contact tracing. Neither has happened, which is why we are on this position.

I too feel that the lockdowns were supposed to buy us time to ramp up a response and it doesn't seem like we've actually ramped anything up very much.

That’s a false equivalency argument. Flu vaccines exist because the flu virus is not new and mutates in a relatively predictable manner. The flu season is also more prolonged so if you require a hospital stay they will have space and staff to treat you accordingly.
