As it dims does this mean it’s expanding or contracting or neither...or is there no way to tell?

I end every night by peeing off of my south facing deck, looking into the night sky, hoping Betelgeuse will explode before my eyes. I was pretty confident that it was going to happen after I had three beers last Saturday. I will continue my experiment and report any observations.

It appears that Betelgeuse has also started to dim in the near infrared during the past couple of days, whereas it had been constant in IR since the beginning of January.
