This weekend I was told that saying "Fuck him and the Nazi horse he rode in on" about a now-arrested Nazi who said he'd kill people to start a war (on camera!) makes me "exactly like him" b/c "nastiness is always bad". Someone then defended him, insisting manners aren't "naive".

Naive is not the word here. Thinking that salty language is exactly the same as murder and genocide isn't naive. Fuck that. It shows fundamentally fucked up priorities, not manners or naïveté.
