Very important. Also incoming students should be aware of other costs like on-campus housing. For instance charges graduate students on average 44% of their total stipend income for on-campus housing, making affordability a HUGE challenge.

[1/10] 3 yrs ago, I was 1 mo away from returning to med school when I saw a peculiar trend in sequencing data. I hesitated at first, then canceled my classes, applied to PhD, and embarked on an incredible journey. I am happy to share the fruits of my labor:

Congrats to our talented Ross Weber on his new paper! We asked a simple question: Why do cancer cells require lysosomal acidity to proliferate?

I’m excited to announce the latest release of – our effort to map interactions among human proteins using affinity-purification mass spectrometry. After >15k IP’s, we have produced 2 proteome-scale networks in contrasting cell lines. What did we learn? See below! 1/8

My first paper in grad school! We report a dependency of some highly aggressive, metastatic breast cancer cells on mitochondrial serine and one-carbon unit metabolism. Available online at

Very interesting question. Given the in vitro restriction, I recall Table 2 from () showing 3-5 fold diffs in cytosolic NAD/NADH ratios between normal & cancer cell lines. This assumes you have the tools to express/measure genetically encoded NADH sensors.
