    It's worth noting that work is not yet complete at the tunnel's old south portal. This area will be topped with soil, seeded with grass, and then the slope turned over to the City of Seattle. But the tunnel's interior has now been completely filled.

    Crews have begun the final stage of filling Seattle's old Battery Street Tunnel. They are pouring low-density cellular concrete, a kind of "concrete meringue" that protects utilities but could still be dug through in the future. Learn more:

    Reminder: the SR 99 tunnel is closed both directions tomorrow night (Thurs, June 18) for maintenance.

    Both directions of the SR 99 tunnel will close tomorrow night starting at 9 p.m. for regular maintenance. Both directions will reopen at 4 a.m.

    Emergency maintenance - like our bridge crew fixing a large pothole on the SR 507 Deschutes bridge - has been vital in keeping essential travel safe. The crew used protective gear to respond safely and quickly. Nice work team!

    Bob Essex keeps providing great service at our terminals & toll booths during this emergency but he misses seeing so many regular commuters. He & his teammates work hard to keep our ferries safe for those who must travel. Thanks Bob!

    In South Lake Union, we've opened new signalized intersections on 7th Ave N at Thomas and John Streets. Left turns remain prohibited as final phase of work, in median, begins.

    Reminder: the SR 99 tunnel is closed southbound TONIGHT so crews can repair the leaking grout port and conduct other routine maintenance work. 10 p.m. Fri to 8 a.m. Sat

    FYI: ⛔️The southbound tunnel will close from 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, to 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 29. Contractors will also use this closure to make permanent repairs and complete maintenance work.

    The SB SR 99 tunnel is open after an overnight maintenance closure. Our maintenance crews were able to create a temporary fix for the leak above the roadway. Our contractor will be out over the next week to make a permanent repair.

    We are investigating a leak coming from above the southbound lanes of the SR 99 tunnel, it is still safe to travel through. Monthly maintenance is scheduled for this direction at 10 p.m. tonight. We will use this closure to determine next steps with our contractor.

    One year ago, construction crews unburied the SR 99 tunnel's northbound on-ramp near the stadiums. It had been built and then buried for several years while SR 99 bypass traffic drove over top of it.
