Thanks! You make my point. I don’t doubt anyone’s sincerity. But Whitehall house view can turn out to be disastrous (as on ERM) or just out of touch (EU Ref). Hard for public to have confidence if 90% of advice is from officials who think the people voted the wrong way.

I agree that Lawson was wrong on ERM (and I was always against € for UK) - but unless you draft in tens of thousands of new UKIP-approved officials you are stuck with a Civil Service which thinks Brexit is a strategic blunder. Sadly,they will still loyally try to deliver it.
