The EU is a union of democracies. For us, EU membership means more power to face challenges that can only be overcome if European countries work together.

Unless we (the UK) is planning on only trading with ourselves, we will have our power eroded by the outside world, though trading agreements, whether in the EU or out. That is the modern world i'm afraid.

Apart from the fact our sovereignty has never eroded or it Is somehow possible to get back something we never lost, if we were forced to trade only with ourselves, these dickheads would still lose us money. My evidence? Carillion

What rubbish! EU laws have to be passed by both the democratically elected members of the European parliament and by the democratically elected government ministers in the European Council.
-
Tell me when was the last democratic election for the European council?
-
Our last election to the European Council was the 2017 General Election. We elected Theresa May: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Council#Members … EC President, Donald Tusk, was elected in 2014 & 2017 by the other members of council: i.e. elected heads of state. President doesnt get to vote on stuff too
-
You a fan of the House of Lords then?
-
House of Lords is substantially less democratic than the European Union to say the least
-
The general election

-
The European Council is nothing but the head of every member state, so for us Theresa May?
-
Well this is embarrassing! I’ve seen ‘council’ and read ‘commission’, point taken.

The EU elects a parliament and is made up of democracies whose representatives vote democratically on its policies. But I know one European country with no elected head of state, upper chamber or cabinet with no proportional representation - the UK.

My neighbours said she'd never heard of the European elections and that we had an MEP. She thought Europe was undemocratic too. I thought she was out of touch.

According to that logic the UK should leave the UN, NATO, World Bank, IMF etc. They are not nation state democracies either...
-
Nor do they aspire to be.

Anna Soubry et al are only concerned about 'democracy' when the vote goes in their favour.
