    Bernard Jenkin Retweeted Jean-Paul Mulot

This is a tweet from the perm rep in UK of the Haute France region which contains Calais. There are NOT going to be hold-ups Dover-Calais if there is no deal. Govt should stop spreading alarm about this. @BrexitCentralhttps://twitter.com/jeanpaulmulot/status/1055031804103663617 …

    Bernard Jenkin added,

    Jean-Paul Mulot @jeanpaulmulot
French government has got no plans to close down #Calais: lots of people confused about potential threats around No Deal. Customs aren’t the issue, maybe delays due to eventual light sanitary controls & #brexit exit bill won’t trigger any suicidal economic mission by 🇫🇷 ports https://twitter.com/tnewtondunn/status/1054841788308078592 …

The fact you have to tell our own government to stop spreading alarm about Brexit speaks volumes. @theresa_may has absolutely no intention of delivering a Brexit worthy of it’s name.

Your colleague @CharlieElphicke is in a group discussing how to tarmac Kent to make a lorry park as any additional checks on the thousands of lorries will inevitably cause huge tailbacks, but carry on your fantasy, we won't forget.

So all the rules governing our EU trade become invalid overnight, but that won't cause any problems at the border? You seriously think that? Really? Come on man, it's really time for you to start taking this whole brexit business at least semi-seriously.

There are other EU ports that deal with non EU goods all day long and have no problems. Head of operations at Dover was saying the same thing, it will make little to no difference to operations.

Do you read what people say as opposed to what you want to believe? He refers to the possibility of 'delays due to eventual light sanitary controls & #brexit exit bill'. He is actually saying there will be delays if there is no deal and the Brexit Bill is not paid. (More)

Even short delays will lead to large hold-ups in Kent. He is a local authority official not French Government. He is also making it clear thatdelays will not be the fault of the Port of Calais - which is true.
