They promised we’d be able to block EU laws in the 1970s - guess how many we’ve managed to avoid since then? #ChuckChequerspic.twitter.com/gq4a08VuyS

Why would we avoid laws agreed by our gov't? Although we do avoid implementing things like the 3 month rule for non working migrants.

That's the whole point. They aren't. Unless you are mistaking treaties for laws. No EU regulation goes anywhere near an elected representative of the UK.

Treaties enable agreement on common rules. Parliament ratifies treaties. Parliament ratifies EU law. There can be no law without parliamentary approval. Parliament is ultimately in control of laws and we the public are in control of who sits there on our behalf. Got to trust MPs!

Parliament doesn't ratify all EU law. Large amounts of it go straight from EU civil servants straight onto our statute book. We are not in control of EU law at all. In fact the polar opposite is true.

It can only do that because like with statutory instruments those matters can be delegated - by parliament. All UK law has parliamentary authority or else it is not law.

In what sense does an eu regulation require parliamentary authority?

An EU regulation can only come into uk law as part of a process that has been approved by parliament. Therefore all laws/regulations are brought into law by the authority of parliament.

I am afraid you are completely wrong. EU regulations have direct legal effect in the UK, whether or not approved by the UK Parliament. EU directives must also be implemented, or the UK is in breach of the EU treaties and can be sued for damages under EU law.

Who signed up for that then? Who allowed us to be forced to implement these directives? Who allowed us to be subject to EU treaties? Could it have been parliament? Our MPs did this to us then? Is it such a bad thing? Are the rules so bad for us? May will keep them post brexit.
