Barnier “I am convinced that it is possible to carry out the kind of checks we need without creating a physical frontier .... and in respect of the constitutional order of the United Kingdom. We are talking about checks on goods”.... Why can’t this apply to the land border too?

None of you seem to know about the TIR system, Goods are certified by customs leaving the factory to the point of arrival. Its been working well for everyone including us pre EEC across the Irish border https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TIR_Convention … no one wants to hear anything positive from the past.

There were customs posts on the Island of Ireland from 1923 - 1993 and a border in one way shape or form from 1923 - 2005. There is no technology based border in the world that avoids border posts and infrastructure.pic.twitter.com/jSmUtAtoAU

You might want to look at a map. Look out for something that is labelled 'Irish Sea'. So there already is a physical frontier between NI and GB. As you know, the UK Government has committed to not creating one in NI where the border literally goes through people's houses.

Because unlike a ship docking at a port or a plane landing at an airport (which are single entry points) there are hundreds of entry points between NI and RoI. You really havent thought this through have you.

Wait, you think the border between Eire and NI is larger and harder to manage than that between the UK and everyone else? 😂😂😂

Yes. Because again the entry point between NI/RoI and rUK is via a specific seaport or airport. A land border has hundreds of crossing points, roads, motoways, bridges, country lanes. It is entirely differe t

Hundreds of tiny airports, miles of unwatched coastline... but a few hundred miles of land border is much, much harder...dude. c'mon.pic.twitter.com/9GaTOzfNRL

Again an airport is a specific entry point that is monitored. Every airport by law that accepts intl flights has to have customs officials. You havent thought this through either.

Those superb customs agents, diligently catching drug dealers and people smugglers 24/7. That's why there are no drugs in Britain- superhuman customs agents. And the coastline? How is N Ireland's country lanes harder to manage than the entirety of the UKs coastline?

Because this isnt just about criminal smugglers who sail a dinghy between UK and Ireland its about the very large number of legal people who go between the countries every single day

So you need to read the EUs Smart Borders 2.0 report, which outlines technological solutions to allow Irish people to regularly cross the border without necessitating physical infrastructure

Heard you on Radio 4, if goods come to Rotterdam and are checked 20 miles away. Why not arrive Larne or Dublin and checked in Enniskillen or Drogheda. + surely it’s not beyond the wit of man to come up with a reasonable solution to accommodate a lorry doing a daily milk run.

Along with Boris Johnson and Rees-Mogg you talk fine words about “making Britain Great again”, “taking back control” etc., yet in 2 years since the vote not one of you has come up with a serious alternative exit strategy that takes into account the interests of everyone.

So inconvenient to quitters that the EU are sticking to their rules. Rules that the UK influenced and helped to shape. Problem is quitters like Bernie haven't got a plan so they just issue pathetic tweets blaming everyone else.
