@bernardjenkin I have always supported you, but you know as well as I do that @theresa_may is not going to flip to WTO. When are the MPs going to grow some balls and have her removed. @BorisJohnson is out there alone at the moment. The Country needs to see some courage.

You're just making this drivel up now, Bernard, aren't you. You're not even pretending to have any basis in fact. You're pathetic.

I assume, you have no idea what you are talking about. EU and Canada were trading under the WTO,now they have CETA, it cuts 98% of the tarifs between them, bans imitations, improves trade, protects people and environment on both sides. But for you WTO is better, just pls tell us how?

If WTO is so great, and this has been debunked many times, why didn’t you stand on that platform in 2016? Instead you promised we’d keep all benefits of the SM without the obligations. What happened to that promise?

Facts ..... 193 countries in the world (UN) 35 of the countries have 'developed, sophisticated economies' who make good trading partners (IMF) 27 of the 35 are on our doorstep in Europe Europe has to be at the core of our trading strategy EU is the best delivery vehicle
-
Not sure 4 and 5 are facts. They look like fanciful opinions to me. Care to reiterate?
-
I'll send you a link to the IMF site when I get back from holiday. Or search IMF web site ? I have my own opinions but not my own facts :-)
-
Given that 90% of international trade increase is expected to be outside EU27, EU's position in UK trade strategy should be one of de-emphasis rather than core. Would you not agree?
-
No ..... Not when 44% of existing trade is with the EU and the EU already has 76 trade agreements with the rest of the world. The EU is not holding back German trade with say China. Productivity and cost is the UK's problem.
-
44% & falling. That also includes UK goods exported via Rotterdam. Most of those 76 are not effective. China is not in EU. What's your point? Both productivity & cost will improve with Brexit.
-
Germany (in EU) do massive trade with China. Yet we seemingly have to leave the EU in order to trade with eg China.
-
No. You're confusing ability to trade with tariff free trade. They are different things. Don't worry. Many Remoaners get confused.

Taken from
@RogerBootle own Capital Economics website - ‘there is little doubt that a “no deal” Brexit could deal a significant blow to GDP next year.’ -
So much could be written about FTA’s being negotiated since 2013 with countries listed.APEC also neg FTA because of geographical location & benefits.Who are our local trading partners? If the world is uniting with their local partners for good trading relations it must make sense?

Seriously
@bernardjenkin, ten minutes in a radio or TV studio of your choice with@JasonJHunter would debunk all your absurd#Brexit trade fantasies. We're heading for a national catastrophe, and you know it...Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

You obviously have no idea of the WTO rules or how it works
-
Do you? Can you tell us if there are any problems which aren't easily solvable? I need to know as I think it's great and there's no way EU will improve on WTO. I wouldn't want to get it wrong. I'm sure others would like to know too. Thanks
-
Maybe I can help? No state trades with other state on "WTO only" basis - but always has supplementary deal. WTO is tariff only schedule whereas most trade issues are non-tariff barriers (NTB) related. WTO doesn't cover NTBs. For EU to not discriminate against UK on NTB there....
-
must be Agreement on NTBs, esp conformity of standards. Without: massive issues at borders (at minimum) whilst goods are checked. EU=40% of UK net exports & 69/65% imports (including food) so we need agreement on NTBs to prevent us throwing open borders & EU closing its.
-
Thanks. So we need agreement on non-tariff barriers. As EU already has an agreement with UK to cover this, it shouldn't be that difficult. EU has had over 2 years to prepare. Anything else?
-
Yes it should be the UK that prepares for this if we want to leave the onus is on us to sort things out for our benefit- which is not wto rules which are much worse- why cut your nose off to spite your face?
