You are responsible. You persuaded people to vote for the impossible. You wanted the hardest of Brexits and sought no compromise. You own it. Hopefully, after this mess, this will be the end of the Tories for a generation.

Well said. The only people responsible for this mess are those that pushed for it without a plan, those that voted for it, and those who rushed to trigger A50 before deciding what any of it meant.

Why don't you resign then? You're an abysmal constituency MP because you've posted nothing about the struggles of normal people in North East Essex.Goading some of us as "Remoaners" in the process. Now you no longer even represent the government you were elected to represent.GO!
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

What beggars belief is that Tory MPs (you might even be called a Tory Grandee these days) support attacks on their own Govt for trying to fulfill their unfulfillable Brexit fantasies.
-
Are you saying that the UK is a prisioner of the EU and never leave? At last someone has admitted the fraud & the lies from the Remain camp that the UK was still a sovereign country has now finally been exposed!! Well done.pic.twitter.com/6qXeoc2NkI

Of course we can leave (and I fear we will) but not to the Nirvana painted by the snake-oil merchants of Brexit. Britain will be utterly diminished, *losing* reputation, influence and effective sovereignty (ie the ability to shape its environment).
-
Bollox, look around you at the mess this country is in as a direct consequence of being shackled to this corrupt Kabul, non believers in nation state democracy make me want to vomit.
-
The EU seeks to defend what is best about nation states (separate Parliaments, languages, cultures, traditions...) while overcoming the worst (trade obstacles, xenophobia, ethno-nationalist hatreds, jingoism). I share your support for nation state democracy.
-
No, the EU wants to subsume the Nation State and become a Federal union where Countries will become mere regions. This plaque hangs in the EU visitor center.pic.twitter.com/uIMJr995IJ

I'm with Churchill: "Nationalism throughout Europe...has already found, and will find, it's victorious realisation at once unsatisfying and uncomfortable. More than any other world movement, it is fated to find victory bitter."
-
"From every man" he went on "will some day be required not the merging or discarding of various loyalties, but their simultaneous reconciliation in a complete or larger synthethsis". That's a noble aim, and the EU is the most successful attempt so far at collaborative democracy.

The problem is that the government has to kowtow to extremists within its own caucus who won't allow a pragmatic, sensible outcome. You, basically

@AllisterHeath What is CERTAIN about#Brexit? The EU wants to stop it. And when the EU looks at the UK what does it see? A weak Prime Minister leading a minority government and a divided country - the perfect scenario. All the EU has to do is run down the clock and agree nothing. -
If we give into that kind of wilful opaque strategy then the U.K. is not the country I am so incredibly proud of!
-
Well, as that's the strategy the
#EU are using (I don't blame them) it's definitely true to say that to date UK efforts to counter it have been woeful, in fact almost non-existent. -
The EU strategy is strangely aligned with their rules. The UK on the other hand have no strategy as Bernard and his ERG mates are hell bent on a suicidal hard Brexit, not what he and his leave chums promised in the referendum.......
-
Nonsense!
-
Well if you say so Dave old boy you must be right. However from the tone of your response I feel it may be rather closer to reality than you wish to admit
Perhaps a tad inconvenient for you.
