"The average family in Mass is on the hook for about $14,000 a year, whether they own a car or not. For those who do own vehicles, the average annual costs nearly double." IMPORTANT study by @Kennedy_School at urging of @sethmoulton to put real price of driving in perspective.

So, I live in Lexington and work at the Pru. If it takes me all-In almost an hour and a half each way on public transportation vs 40 mins max to drive, why would I take the T... and get coughed on all winter?

I hear ya. And no ones imagining were going to get every car off the road. If you can make some folks rethink the ways they get to work and shift them to public transit out of SOV the impact on our congestion is exponential.

There's another hidden cost that I don't see addressed in the article.. how about our state of mind? Imagine how happier people would be if they weren't wasting 3 hours a day crawling to work? Commuters in this city are arguably the most miserable I've ever seen.

Absolutely! The
@nytimes addressed this earlier this year... it's pretty horrendous. Also the long term health effects of breathing in exhaust while sitting in traffic daily are being studied by a few local doctors. Horrible for young children.https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/21/upshot/stuck-and-stressed-the-health-costs-of-traffic.html …

1 Adult = 1 Car paradigm is evolutionary divergence in humanity. Great thread of comments. Functional urbanism requires dedication to public health and education.https://youtu.be/aiKuL-LdU2k
