4/4 All this would mean is that beggar-thy-neighbor policies in some countries should be matched with even more aggressive beggar-thy-neighbor policies elsewhere. We tried that in the 1930s.

Climate change could wipe off up to 18% of global GDP in 2050. Asian economies were forecast to be hardest hit, with a 5.5% hit to GDP in the best-case scenario, and 26.5% hit in a severe scenario.

1/6 I disagree, Martin. For the past several decades businesses have been very clear: they cannot raise wages in line with productivity because of foreign competition, mainly from countries with low wages relative to productivity, and if they have to pay higher wages, they...

8/10 wages – and import tariffs are not helpful here – are beneficial to the extent that they reduce income inequality. This benefit, however, will never show up in any of the studies that measure the direct impact of trade intervention, even if it is the main consequence.

6/6 problem for the US than trade, that doesn’t mean trade is irrelevant. I do agree with Wolf, however, in his opposition to import tariffs. They mostly create economic distortions that do nothing to address US and global trade imbalances.
