The business model of many companies is to offer their services for "free". Rather than take your money, they take your life: they collect as much about you as they can and sell that. They also try to control your actions to make more money.

There is a push towards forcing users to provide information without a technical need for said info. User can "choose" to not use the service or give up their data, but IRL most users to not understand or realize the ramifications and click ok.
