There is also a gap between what people say they want & what they buy. One thing I’ve wondered about—as news orgs message to subscribers that “now more than ever your subscriptions are vital to our ability to operate,” does that contribute to news consumers wanting the publications they subscribe to to only reflect their viewpoints?

In an ideal world, we'd want the public to ask to be challenged by what they read/see. Though I suspect respondents interpreted that option as slanted reporting that does not align with my worldview
