Big news from and well-deserved appointment for Margherita Della Valle who has done a superb job since taking the reigns from Nick Read. Some big challenges ahead, interested to see how the company evolves.

Encouraging to see the alert system go live today. Thought I'd resurface this tweet from 2020.

In future, UK government should fund mandatory implementation of Wireless Emergency Alerts system across all UK networks. A text message is better than nothing, but at even at 1000 msgs/second its takes forever to hit 85 million mobiles in the UK. (BBC piece includes my comments) twitter.com/BBCTech/status…

Temperature is such a key metric and an invaluable sensor in #wearables. Particularly for women’s health. Really interested to see how this capability evolves and enhances associated apps.

Good to see the temperature sensor on Samsung smartwatches finally being put to use! Also good to see the historically underserved area of female health at the centre of recent wearables development from both Apple and Samsung news.samsung.com/us/skin-temper

Interesting stuff if this is accurate - have long felt that Fitbit could be a brand very well suited to the kids' smartwatch market (even with the Google takeover)

5/5 Here is the report on the Magic5 Pro for anyone that is interested. dxomark.com/honor-magic5-p Imaging quality is so subjective it is hard to tell the difference between high end smartphones. All shots above in good light & outside so should perform well.

I've been using the Find N2 Flip for the last few weeks. It's a nice design and the larger external screen is a step in the right direction albeit a little limited on functionality. Battery life has been good and here are a few Cornish shots using the 50MP camera.

A major milestone in mobile phone history today - 50 years since the first mobile phone call. I was lucky enough to meet recently - see the video below 👇👇👇

50 years ago today, on 3 April 1973, the first mobile phone call was made in New York by Martin Cooper, the “father of the handheld cell phone”. Check out this #MobilePhoneMuseum video celebrating this milestone and the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X (mobilephonemuseum.com/phone-detail/d).

An interesting piece by my colleague on the impact of inflation-linked price rises by UK mobile operators - well worth a read...

A few thoughts on upcoming price rises from UK operators. The logic is sound, but the magnitude will be hard for many to swallow. And there’s plenty more the industry can do to help people struggling. ccsinsight.com/blog/uk-operat

A little surprised to turn on my iPhone this morning here in the rainy UK to find a COVID-19 exposure alert from the Californian Department of Public Health 🤔(I’ve not been to California this year!)

5/5 Primary differentiator is Amazon “Ambient Experience”. Offers wide range of content when TV not in use – e.g. dynamic gallery of pictures, widgets with weather & more. Also access to smart home functions. Amazon says Ambient Experience drives 26% more users engagement.
