/2 Leave aside that I find the language from a 30-year-old to a 16-year-old deeply creepy. Let's talk about signing it as "D.A."
/3 One thing that gets drilled into prosecutors -- federal and state -- is that you can't abuse your rank or badge (if you have one) in private interactions.
/4 In 1995 I was told that using my rank or creds to get out of a traffic ticket would earn a 60-day unpaid suspension.
/5 (Not withstanding that no sane AUSA would announce himself to an LAPD officer in 1995 after the Rodney King federal trial.)
/6 Anyway, culturally it's generally frowned upon to throw the rank/title around. Maybe that idea wasn't as ingrained in 1977; I don't know.
/7 But when Moore signed that 16-year-old's yearbook as "D.A." he hadn't even been a deputy DA for a year yet. He was a novice. She was an acquaintance.
/8 Some say it was a warning to her. Dunno. I do know that, if it wasn't, it strikes me as deeply insecure, needy, and pathetic. Like Wile E. Coyote, Super Genius.
