@monkbent Why wouldn't "MS Android" end up like "OS/2 for Windows" (or whatever it was called)?

-
@genericpoints very well might. But the current strategy is dead -
@monkbent Sure, but why bother to be in mobile platforms and devices at all? It's not consistent with your services recommendation. -
@genericpoints I argue they should get out of devices. See point 2 -
@monkbent I saw. I'm asking why you don't see being out of OS/platforms as a natural extension. -
@genericpoints because Google/Android would dominate the low end otherwise, and they’re not getting their services there

@monkbent A world where I can only choose Apple or Google makes me very sad. Neither make products for me.
I hope MS never stops trying. -
@monkbent Even at full monopoly, at least Apple fans could always buy Macs. Many want me to lose that same freedom to choose MS. -
@HorhayAtAMD it's not a "want" -
@monkbent And even if you aren't in that group, you belong to another group that is trying to convince MS to stop making products for me. -
@HorhayAtAMD no, I'm in a group that is trying to describe the world as it is -
@monkbent You have Apple and that's great. I tried Apple (MBP, iPhone, iPad) but not for me. I hope niche like me doesn't have to lose. -
@HorhayAtAMD you're not a niche, in PCs at least. Also, I worked at Microsoft for two years and use their services. -
@monkbent Don't use PCs much anymore except at work. My Surface Pro replaced my laptop. My WP makes me niche. I get "Metro". My favorite UI. - 1 more reply

@monkbent@stratechery Embrace and extend! -
@bradsilverberg unfortunately, extinguish may be out of reach ;) -
@monkbent just being in the game would be good enough. For now.
