Who isn't scared to fork Android? Who else can make an Android App Store? How much else that's essential is really missing from AOSP?
@__MarkW__ @BenedictEvans and if Samsung, with 1/3 of the world's smartphones, were one of the endpoints?

@monkbent@__MarkW__ too risky for Samsung given google won't let it sell both official and forked android -
@BenedictEvans ah yes, good point

@monkbent@BenedictEvans Samsung are REALLY bad at software though. They need Google to do it for them. Co-dependent right now. -
@__MarkW__@BenedictEvans agree. But people saying it’s a one-sided relationship 100% in Google’s favor are mistaken -
@monkbent@BenedictEvans Clueless. With Nokia almost gone I doubt everyone else could even produce enough units to meet demand collectively… -
@monkbent@BenedictEvans …supply chain, logistics, distribution. No-one else has the scale. Maybe Lenovo could ramp up fast? -
@monkbent@BenedictEvans However with their "keep Google honest" efforts at Tizen, Samung are only managing to prove how much they need them -
@__MarkW__@BenedictEvans Tizen was stupid in that regard. They should have released an aosp phone just for fun…

@monkbent@BenedictEvans I have no doubt Samsung could fork Android. I'm not convinced about anyone else starting a fork now. -
@__MarkW__@monkbent@BenedictEvans Samsung can indeed make a fork. But will it help them sell more phones? I doubt. -
@mvakulenko@__MarkW__@BenedictEvans no one is saying that. They’re obviously both codependent -
@monkbent@__MarkW__@BenedictEvans Codependent, yes, but Samsung fork will damage Samsung more than Google. Especially considering Lenovo.
