@monkbent confused. My understanding is Xiaomi sells hdwr. near cost to sell pay services. Never see that mentioned in reviews. ???

@eric_perlberg because gadget sites are generally clueless about business models -
@monkbent do you know what these services are? -
@eric_perlberg a bit if everything. Games, apps, ebooks, ads, paid themes, search. It's like Apple only making profit on iTunes/apps etc -
@monkbent or Google selling hardware at cost to profit from the Play store without the hidden advertising revenue? Hard to take seriously. -
@eric_perlberg well, that's why it should be taken curiously. A competitor who lives on much smaller margin is much more dangerous -
@monkbent those sort of dots are always easier to connect looking back. I’ll remain incredulous. -
@eric_perlberg yes. Agree they've sort of jumped the shark, as it were.

@monkbent The article had me at "The bland design won’t get ... too many girls checking out what’s in your hand" Hahaha! Really!? -
@chongleekhoo lol - yeah, noticed that...

@monkbent : Have you used a Xiaomi? Keep on reading good stuff re: their devices but never played with one. -
@vibhor_chhabra no - I'm going to try and grab the new high end one when it comes out here
