ICYMI @stratechery: In retrospect, it would've been more surprising if the 5C did NOT cost $550. ♻️ $550 makes sensehttp://stratechery.com/2013/the-550-iphone-5c-makes-perfect-sense/ …

@monkbent there is a way to address the mkt left out by the $450 subsidy floor: sell an iPod Touch with 3G for $300. Let VOIP be carrier app

@monkbent carrier. Just saying that if they want to target the mkt below subsidy floor they have to try with another product: not iPhone

@saileshkrish I think an iPhone sold in Apple store's only is more likely

@monkbent what difference would that make ? Arbitrage still prevents them from selling a comparable product (iPhone) cheaper.

@saileshkrish an unsubsidized iPhone in an Apple store would cost more up front than one bought from a carrier

@monkbent @saileshkrish An emerging-market-only product maybe? But carriers could then demand access.

@monkbent @saileshkrish Carrier contracts have MFN clauses. Or there would be no reason to hold off on "emerging markets only" products.

@monkbent @saileshkrish If no MFN clause, why could those hypothetical products not be sold in prepaid markets in US/Europe?

@monkbent @saileshkrish Too much Apple analysis focuses on why company is right vs. why approach is right.
