@sameer_singh17 @monkbent “Wall Street” seems to spin almost any Apple story as negative these days. For Apple it’s lose-lose

@eric_perlberg @monkbent It's really the expectations vs. reality effect. When the iPhone was gaining steam, it always beat expectations.

@sameer_singh17 @monkbent exactly, now it’s a slowing, maturing market & tactics should change. Continuing rising expectations impossible

@eric_perlberg @monkbent True. Unfortunately, a lot of analysts expectations may have been priced into the stock. So all news seems negative

@eric_perlberg @monkbent Just last year, some analysts were expecting 250+ million iPhone sales. Reality hit the stock hard.

@sameer_singh17 @monkbent what Apple did w/ 5c is genius but analysts so busy in fantasy they miss it. Instead now want to prove Apple wrong

@eric_perlberg @monkbent I don't agree that the 5c was genius either. It was defensive and they don't see low end disruptors as threats.

@eric_perlberg @monkbent It is dangerous to not take competition seriously, especially if those competitors are trying to move upmarket.

@sameer_singh17 @eric_perlberg it's equally foolhardy to base perceived differentiation solely on feed, speeds and price

@monkbent @eric_perlberg It depends on the prevailing basis of competition, does it not?

@sameer_singh17 @eric_perlberg it is true, of course, that some cultures place more emphasis on said feeds and speeds

@monkbent @eric_perlberg Basis is competition in higher tiers (subsidized) has more to do with data usage patterns. Need different analysis.

@monkbent @eric_perlberg I wouldn't call it a hole, but an "escape" - new categories. But yes, there's no end to this discussion.

@monkbent @eric_perlberg Sadly, the ideal case studies to support this discussion are the smartphone/tablet market themselves. Ironic.
