@monkbent @reneritchie Apple cares about having lots of apps, I’m pretty sure it cares not one whit that those apps make money.

@monkbent@reneritchie Indeed, I’ve made similar arguments at@tuaw a few times over the years. -
@PenLlawen@reneritchie yep. Totally logical behavior, even if devs don't want to admit it :) -
@monkbent@PenLlawen@reneritchie Corollary: If you are a developer and want a sustainable business, multi-platform is table stakes.

@monkbent iOS vs Android are two different industry structures. iOS is free for consumers, Android also free for OEMs. -
@andreascon of course. I've been very consistent and saying they're totally different. They are both, however, free :)

@monkbent Interesting, but go a step further: if OEMs really saw oppty to sell WinPhoneOS (or Tizen?), how much would they happily pay? -
@WaltFrench@monkbent I think most OEMs feel (perhaps naively) that they can add equal or greater value via customized Android for less $. -
-
@WaltFrench@monkbent They're trying to ensure that their ecosystem remains the one that facilitates the most cutting-edge apps. -
@elkmovie Hoping for a Pleco* blog “Acing the iOS7 Transition.” What's now easy/compatible? One App, 3 diff UXs. etc. * or link to other's -
@WaltFrench Probably should wait for some reassurance that we actually did ace it before we start bragging about how. -
@WaltFrench But in general I'd say every new iteration of iOS brings more incentive to consider a permanently split code base.

@monkbent I think iOS can't be compared as Apple have never sold an OS. Interesting contrast with PC domain though, MICROSOFT'S doom? Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@monkbent I think Apple was the one who originally made the OS layer non-monetizable...now that I think about it, maybe even Windows MobileThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@monkbent And with today's announcements Apple is bringing that non-monetizable strategy to productivity & media editing apps, too. :/ -
@BennettGriffin_@monkbent that, in my view, is going to change alot in "App-Dom" going forward. It's also going to popularize iWorks & co
