@monkbent saying Nintendos doing well because it has billions in cash isn't exactly true when its revenue, income & share price are sinking.

.@kirkburgess yeah. I think Nintendo is in trouble. But I also don't think the solution is obvious either.

@monkbent Thoughts about Nintendo moving to an amazon type model where it controls the key ecosystem elements it's best at, outsources OS?

@darkarconio no, they're as vertical as it gets.

@monkbent I guess they view OS as a core competency, even if we don't think that's their strong suit from outside - like pre OSX Apple?

@darkarconio the OS is unimportant in the context of gaming

@monkbent Except isn't a huge problem for nintendo that mobile OSes makes the OS matter, cause more general devices are more useful?

@darkarconio right - the problem is general purpose devices like the iPhone have "good enough" gaming for people who previously bought DS

@darkarconio the solution, though, surely isn't to try to differentiate in an area they have no expertise in

@monkbent Sort of like what RIM did, except don't build an OS and emulator, but build exclusive hardware/software combinations on top.

@monkbent Yeah, culture and company ego would likely get in the way of choosing such a strategy, even if it would work?

@monkbent That was my point, they standardize by moving to Android, and differentiate on interaction model, hardware and games tied to those
