@monkbent Not surprised at A5, but $450? I thought they’d shoot for $400.

@treestman well, the price is pure speculation. I wouldn't be surprised by A5 either -
@monkbent I think 4S would’ve been $450 as well. Maybe the goal is just to have a better phone at that price, yet also have better margins? -
@treestman yep. And get off the 30-pin and 3:2. Still, seems way too conservative. -
@monkbent It’ll also have a new phone marketing push that the 4S can’t. As for price, maybe it’s the $329 mini many guessed would be ~$250? -
@treestman yes on the marketing push. I may have to write the $450 argument, even though I think it's the wrong idea -
@monkbent Apple likes to start high even entering a “lower” market. Once you establish a low price point it’s hard to raise it. -
@treestman sure, but $299 isn't low in prepaid

@monkbent $450 would fit with the replacing-the-4 idea but it strikes me as very conservative - not going to break new ground in China. -
@monkbent Then again I'm pretty sure Apple isn't going to be permitted to gain (or even hold on to much) market share in China anyway. -
@elkmovie I think that's overstating it. It's not like the Chinese government is a fan of South Korea either -
@monkbent Perhaps, but 三星's easier to beat - the difference between top-tier Chinese OEMs and them gets smaller every year. -
@monkbent And you have to admit the bad PR with AC / warranties / etc is more than a little suspicious - I expect a bigger scandal with 5S. -
@elkmovie 100% agree on that. Seems obvious to me it's orchestrated.
