@monkbent Haha. I won't argue. I think he sums it up well in Footnote 3. Five vowel sounds, no tones, fewer characters - no contest, really. -
@wrightak Japanese is up there. The grammar seems a lot more difficult, particularly the honorific stuff -
@monkbent The grammar is more complicated but you get a handle on it more easily because you see it so often. -
@wrightak speaking of "seeing it," I think the fact you don't get day-to-day reinforcement is a huge deal. You can only learn actively. -
@monkbent Right, that's the problem with the characters, particularly when it comes to writing them. Gaps between usage/sight can be large.
