@monkbent finally, I entirely agree Goog is a services comp., but unsure why you think they're 'worried about the iPad dominating tablets'?

@chrismlacy same reason they don't want anyone dominating phones See: http://stratechery.com/2013/the-android-detour/ … http://stratechery.com/2013/apple-rejects-google-now-eu-to-investigate/ …http://stratechery.com/2013/if-not-for-android-where-would-google-be/ … -
@monkbent also, I don't know why you keep going on about Android 'pivoting'. Exactly how did they pivot? -
@chrismlacy did I use the word "pivot"? I don't think they're pivoting; rather, deemphasizing. Of course they love the data. -
@monkbent "When the iPhone arrived in 2007, Google quickly pivoted Android to defuse the new threat." http://stratechery.com/2013/the-android-detour/ … -
@chrismlacy And I would classify moving focus from Windows Mobile to the iPhone as a pivot. Not sure how that is "going on and on" -
@monkbent I read 'pivot' in 2 of your articles, but I just realized it was the same line both times. That's why I said 'on and on'.

@monkbent a very expensive screwup! -
@njashanmal it's less than it looks, but yeah. Makes that explanation unsatisfying -
@monkbent presumably you saw@michaelmace's excellent post on the topic: http://goo.gl/pvfySW -
@njashanmal I did. I like his overall thesis, but am not sure on the Motorola part -
@monkbent suppose it depends on how valuable they really thought those patents were. Don't think they ever really wanted to be a phonemaker.

I agree with much of .
@monkbent’s thoughts here and have stated for a while Chrome OS is Google’s end game. http://stratechery.com/?p=448Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@monkbent also, misguided to think Google care about controlling Android. All OEM releases run Google services. That's what they care about.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@monkbent your "Named" Android releases graph is entirely stupid. It's in Google's PR interests to use as few names as possible.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@monkbent Except that they haven't treated it like a sunk cost - they keep investing in it. -
@greengart@monkbent I have seen the hardware team there are assembling there and they are going to make a go at it.
