This is what I've been thinking about for the past 24 hours or so. The ways in which non-Jews are rarely - almost never - asked to sit quietly and listen to Jews talk about our struggles and oppressions. And it's getting more urgent that that space gets made.

So hot take: non-Jews writing Jews for film and television need to step up their damn game. Y'know, script more Hebrew words than "shalom" and "oy vey". Have a scene with a Bar Mitzvah where the kid mumbles along with the rabbi the whole time.

Also, and this should be obvious, but actually look up all the Jewish holidays and what they're about. The main ones aren't that hard: 8 Days of Presents, 8 Days of No Bread, Build a Hut and Dance in it, Make Some Noise, Start Repenting now, Repent Extra Hard, Torah Birthday...

how is it possible that during a resurgence of violent antisemitism like we haven't seen in years, we are somehow putting more energy into alienating Black folx (whether Jewish or gentile) by holding them to higher standards than whites, instead of into combatting white supremacy

  9. Yep. I love (but am not surprised) that the Quran and Mishnah are almost word for word on this.

  10. Anti-Zionism isn't necessarily antisemitism, sure, but also this. Use caution checking the user profile folks, it's mostly retweets of an open Nazi who has recently been obsessed with getting 1488 followers.

Sometimes antisemitism feels like when you’re a kid getting a wedgie from a bully & an adult intervenes telling you to sort it out amongst yourselves, like there’s equal blame. It’s the same prickle behind the eyes of injustice & frustration at not being seen or believed.

But - ignoring the ongoing debate about whether that belief is appropriate - I can't BLAME Tlaib, as a diaspora member, for thinking first of her own pain and idealizing her own community just as Jews often do Israel.

I am bringing back in 2019 friends! This week we are having pasta with brown butter, basil and four cheeses, lacinto kale salad with dried cranberries and ice cream sundaes for dessert as requested by 👶🏽. What are you cooking for 1st Shabbat of 2019?

Not EXACTLY suggesting you should do this, but our parents and grandparents used to dredge pieces of challah in the warm rendered chicken fat.......and it is amazing. (The above statement not openly endorsed by any rabbi or the AMA)

  21. If one has medicine that a sick person needs, it is forbidden to charge more than the appropriate price for this medicine. Even if the sick person agreed to the high price out of urgent need, one can still only accept the appropriate price. (Shulchan Aruch Yoreh Deah 336:3)
