I know of a very prominent conservative writer (not me) interviewed by this newspaper for a slot and then rejected when they realized he actually believed conservative things. So look in the mirror, WaPo.

This unnamed writer (only unnamed at his request) won’t vote Trump in 2020. He was deemed too conservative because he says male and female are biological categories.

Their idea of a "reasonable conservative" at this point is simply a democrat that still supports capitalism and not socialism. (Those are dying out too)

I'm a liberal and I think this No Country for Conservatives narrative my party screams is absurd and counterproductive. We have to have both in order to run this machine. 👍

Ironic reality is that the free market killed off a lot of the "reasonable" intellectual side of conservatism. Weekly Standard's subscriptions were way down as Trumpism is easier for the average person to digest.

They basically want a typical CNN conservative-lite who will fill a "conservative role" assuaging their journalistic conscience into thinking their neutral/balanced. A strong unbending conservative who will challenge the approved narrative of the day?? Pass.

What Americans call conservatism isn't conservative in any recognisable form to the rest of the world. There's nothing conservative about science denying, voodoo market fetishization allied to racism and radical norm breaking. The real Burkean conservatives are mostly Democrats.
