the only political issue jack benny really took a public stand on was civil rights. in WW2, eddie anderson refused to appear in uso shows bc of jim crow segregation, and benny backed him 100%. orson welles complained about it in this 06/05/1945 column: newspapers.com/image/29861988

i'm somewhat annoyed by orson's swipe at benny and anderson for bad jokes, which faded from the show after a few years. an 04/24/41 editorial from "the california eagle" called "rochester, the new day" gets to the revolutionary appeal of that character: newspapers.com/image/69291563
